Home, Garden & Underpants

I visited Jayson Home & Garden in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood yesterday.  Was a last minute day trip.  Besides wanting to hire a moving truck to load half the store and deliver the goods to my imaginary pied-à-terre, I was surprised to find they carried prints by Hugo Guiness, an artist I wrote about here a while back.  One of my favorites of prints these everyday objects immortalized is the underwear.  There just isn't enough underwear art, is there?

And if that doesn't get you going, surely this stove will.  Think of the visual riddles you can create by grouping these two together.

Shop home decor, underwear prints and lots of industrial, vintage and re-purposed loveliness at Jayson Home & Garden.  I've even added some things to my wish list.

One of Each

These linoleum cut prints by Hugo Guiness are fantastic.  Vintage and whimsical with a good dose of sophistication. You can even buy them in vintage frames.  Available from John Derian Company Inc.
Go to "goods" and click the "Hugo" link.

Tool Studies

Back to the drawing board...
Had some fun sketching old tools and pairing them with words from an old bin of industrial machine parts.  Most of the script appears exactly as it was written on the tool drawers from which I copied.  Good thing there is a plentiful supply of junk to "draw" from.

Dallas Turn On

Inspired by this unconventional boutique shop in Dallas' Highland Park neighborhood.  They represent an artist using found objects to create objects that I really relate to.  The merchandise is a bit dark, but still tasteful and humorous.  Great designers, books & decor.  On top of being a lovely shop, they also do fresh flowers in the back.  Love the way they utilize unexpected materials that still look chic.  Visit Urban Flower Grange Hall.

Groupies

How about a set of Wrought Iron Flax Combs, a pile of 19th Century Cutlery Boxes or a Collection of Wooden Printers Exclamation Points?  Yes, Please! (Exclamation Point)  All from East Market Street Antiques, New York.  Or vandm.com.

Sunday Junk

Took a drive north of Sheboygan along Lake Michigan and stopped at a couple inconspicuous "antique" shops which ended up being more shelters of the used & abused than destinations for collectables. One had some great Red Wing stone wear, which I always adore, but other than that it was nothing more than glorified permanent garage sales in dilapidated buildings. That aside, I took a liking to the way these chairs were displayed.
As well as these dolls amongst some china and other serving ware.
And a well organized grouping of lighting fixtures - from lanterns to table lamps - all in a row along the wall of an old school house in an unspecified location in the country-side.
A charming day it was.

1, 2, 3...

Lots of good "otherwise trash" at threepotatofour. Interesting finds - mostly vintage - and imaginative photo styling. Check it out, if not for a little nostalgic inspiration.

Pollenated Matchbox

This little matchbox (from Sweden that I love) was sitting beneath a vase of sunflowers on my dining table and received a little pollen treatment.
...the yellow scatter being ever so nice.
