LOVE Adele...and her new video, directed by Sam Brown, who brings amazing rhythmic visuals to compliment the music. Make sure you watch it in full screen.
Here are two more by Sam Brown...these are more than just music videos. His work transforms into something both stylish and powerful. (You have to wait until the half point for "War of the Worlds.")

Prints, Charming
Two great things:
1. The "Golden Rule" as interpretted by a designer and his son. His sons drawings are rearranged to create this pleasant, graphic print. Perfect for a kids room. Get it here.

2. Yee-Haw Industries is a letterpress printmaking and design shop. They have a great Etsy shop featuring some gorgeous antique and vintage style cards, tees and more. (The pea card is my favorite.)

One of Each
These linoleum cut prints by Hugo Guiness are fantastic. Vintage and whimsical with a good dose of sophistication. You can even buy them in vintage frames. Available from John Derian Company Inc.
Go to "goods" and click the "Hugo" link.

Tool Studies
Back to the drawing board...
Had some fun sketching old tools and pairing them with words from an old bin of industrial machine parts. Most of the script appears exactly as it was written on the tool drawers from which I copied. Good thing there is a plentiful supply of junk to "draw" from.

Summer Soon
Two great new albums from two artists I've long adored. Sounds like summer is coming early and this music proves it. Save Jason for a road trip and Josh for hot summer nights.
Listen to El Turista above or here.

Both available for download on iTunes or, if you're like me, from a local record store. (Nothing beats the tangible every so often.)Friday, February 26, 2010
March Bloom
Will be creating a table setting titled, "Vintage Romance" here for Rooms of Blooms as well as a floral piece responding to a trio of original Tiffany lamps, two of which have never been shown publicly. Quite exciting! Pal, designer Victoria and I have a lot of work...this runs every weekend through the month of March.

Dallas Turn On
Inspired by this unconventional boutique shop in Dallas' Highland Park neighborhood. They represent an artist using found objects to create objects that I really relate to. The merchandise is a bit dark, but still tasteful and humorous. Great designers, books & decor. On top of being a lovely shop, they also do fresh flowers in the back. Love the way they utilize unexpected materials that still look chic. Visit Urban Flower Grange Hall.

50 Posts + 1
Just realized the last post was the 50th. Time to celebrate? Not yet. But here are some images I "stole" from the walls of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.

Words on Canvas
In my junk room in a vacant apartment I have some old canvases unfinished from years ago. Every so often I visit them and rework them a little. These two contained remains of stencils - glued on and painted (who knows what I was thinking). Somewhat deconstructed, marked up and embellished with buttons - this is what they looked like when I left. The one on the left reads: "30 Men & Woman Wearing Diamonds" while the one on the right simply reads: "2 of Us." The content was determined by the random stencils that had once been in place. The buttons are not yet permanent...think I'll stitch them on. Until then, there they wait.

Model Trees

Read about Emma Livingston's Tree Portraits in Dwell Magazine. Each photo draws on the individual characteristics of the solo subject thereby giving it some sense of personality. Plus they have a raw, dirty street-sensibility that I just love.

Scare Bear

Intrigued first by the images, but mainly by the process of re-inventing these inside-out creatures.

Natural Travel
My favorite from a friend's new collection of travel-inspired micro fiber bags. "The Native Tote Collection travels to far reaches of the globe, from the jungle to the desert, and to your own backyard. Each one of a kind printed pattern, named after their exact location, represent a small sacred corner of the world, revealed in its own native shape – shapes remaining true to their form, time and and sweet little spot on the map." See more bags.
